Navy investigating use of Trump campaign flag by Virginia Beach-based special warfare unit

VIRGINIA BEACH

The Navy is investigating the use of a Donald Trump campaign flag by the lead vehicle in a military convoy comprised of a Virginia Beach-based special warfare unit, a Navy spokeswoman said Thursday.

Lt. Jacqui Maxwell, a spokeswoman for Naval Special Warfare Group 2, said that a unit was photographed and digitally recorded flying a Trump flag from the back of a Humvee on Sunday near Fort Knox, Ky., where the unit was training.

 Throughout the heated election season, the Navy repeatedly warned sailors against appearing to endorse a political candidate in an official capacity.
