Protesters call for public control of PG&E — and it makes such perfect sense

January 11, 2019

By Tim Redmond : 48hills – excerpt

Sustainable electricity is key to fighting climate change, and public ownership is the only way to get sustainable electricity. Why is this even a debate?

Activists shut down another hearing of the California Public Utilities Commission today, just after Pacific Gas and Electric Co. tried to head off bankruptcy by suggesting it might sell its gas division.

The protesters have another, better idea: Why not force PG&E to sell off its electric division to any city, county, or utility district that wants to set up a public-power system?.. (more)

With so many issues at stake where the CPUC is concerned, it was just a matter of time before the public took issue with something that agency is doing. No surprise that the first issue is PG&E. We anticipate more debates and shutdowns will follow. It looks like the Governor may have to step in to deal with this.
